Chapter 13

KYLIE

“We’re in Germany?” I can’t believe my ears. We just landed in the United States not too long ago. We were on the train for several hours and then found ourselves in a plane. It felt as if we were on the plane for more than a couple of days, though. The German countryside is as beautiful as Romania. Unfortunately, we are so far from the United States and much closer to Romania.

“Look at it this way, maybe he’ll have no clue where we’ve gone to. Maybe Vlad thinks we have gotten out of the container before it came here. I don’t know, but I don’t sense him anywhere near here,” Sorin tells me.

“All I know is that I would like to have a nice hot bath, a good meal, and some sleep in a comfortable bed.”

My body is weary and sore from all the traveling. At least Vlad isn’t here, and Sorin has protected me.

Sorin leads us to an inn not too far from the airfield where we touched down. It’s a little risky, but I trust what he’s doing. We check into the inn and we’re on the third floor overlooking the beautiful fields before us. Germany is indeed a very beautiful place.

Sorin goes to the kitchen to order us a meal and brings it back up to our room.

“There’s no way I am taking any chances with Vlad on the loose by getting you back out.”

We sit down and eat the German sausage with cabbage and root vegetables. It doesn’t matter to me what it is, as I’m very hungry and anything sounds good right now. He has also brought German beer for me to drink while he drinks his blood moonshine. Sorin has it disguised in bottles, so it looks like common wine.

“This is stronger than the blood wine my mother makes.”

I watch as he drinks the thick liquid, leaving his lips stained a little red until he dabs them with a napkin. It bothers me a little, but drinking it keeps him nourished.

Sorin sighs greatly after we finish our meal. I take a hot shower and when I come back, he’s already in bed waiting for me.

“I’ll shower when you’ve fallen asleep.”

I snuggle into his side, once again enjoying having his arms around me. And then I look up at him sharply. “You should shower before I go to sleep. So that way if somebody tries to break in I can scream and you can come to me.”

Sorin agrees and gets up to shower. He peeks his head out through the door of our room before he steps into the bathroom. “You don’t have to scream, I can sense your heartbeat racing when something dangerous is about to happen to you.”

I stay awake until he returns. I’m very tired and ready for sleep, though. He snuggles into bed beside me, freshly showered.

“Kylie, I’ve been thinking. There’s only so long we can run from Vlad. I’m afraid he’ll eventually catch up with us and while I’m not looking he will take you.
